Thank you for this time, Sailing Week

Me and Alex went out to celebrate the last night of this years sailing week with a couple of pizzas on our favorite Italian here in Antigua, Johnny Coconat. It's been some busy days and weeks here lately in the life of our World Tour, and just like I mentioned on our Twitter page - Sailing week have been almost as hectic and intense as a regular fashion week in any major fashion capital in the world. Meaning loads of parties, many shows (races), mingle, networking, drinks here and there and more socializing. It was amazing to take part of such a great event with so much inspiring people that we had the chance to meet, but nothing tempts more right now than getting back to our chill mode, our tranquil life far from masses of people and long nights fiestas. I will be updating with a couple of more posts about the race week later on, the amazing Gunboat race in particular. We won that race too by the way, I think I forgot to tell you. Anyways, check back tomorrow for all pics from that and more.. Goodnight until then. /T

One day on Sojana

Was trying to sum up the day with Sojana in a smart way but realized that no words could describe it all better than these pictures. We're ultimately happy we got the chance to experience a day aboard one of the most interesting and fascinating super sailing yachts existing. An amazing day was spent with Peter and his crew and we can't wait to get up and ride something similar again. /T

Amazing past 24 hours

Hey there,

Not possible to upload pictures now for some reason. Anyways, yesterday was amazing. First we met up with the Sojana crew, great people all of them and what a boat! The largest sailboat I ever stepped on and once we got out on the sea with 25 knots of wind and quite some seas under our keel, it felt like we literally were on top of the world. What a fantastic feeling to stand there on that beast and look down on all the tiny (normal) boats that we passed by. Sojana won both races, obviously, with a max speed of 22,5 knots and it was overall a perfect sailday. We shared a bottle of wine with the boat owner and Vice Chairman of the Chelsea Football Club, Peter Harrison after the races and he showed us around on Sojana and told us some sailing stories and other tales and we couldn't have felt more welcome. Thanks Peter, Nik, Marc, Brian and the rest of you for an unforgettable day on Sojana!!

After that we passed by one of the Gunboats docked on the same pontoon here in Falmouth Harbor where a party was ongoing and had another drink with Alan Block from Sailing Anarchy and some other guys who are here to race the Gunboat catamarans. Gunboats founder Peter Johnstone was there too and we spoke about what will happen today, the catamaran race in which we will participate in, on Peter's boat Tribe. Looking seriously much forward to that one too. So that's all for now, I will get back to you with photos from Sojana and Tribe races later this afternoon or maybe tomorrow. Wish us luck now on our first Gunboat race ever. /T

Fish of the day

Since there are a lot of fish contaminated by ciguatoxin in these waters, I feel relieved when it is a tuna Alex picks up from the sea and not a meter long Barracuda. Tunas are not suspected to carry the toxin which originally comes from smaller reef fish who eats from certain corals, algae and seaweed who in turn are eaten by larger fish and the larger a predator, the greater are the chance for humans to encounter the deadly illness, ciguatera. We got one large Barracuda the other day and that one had to go straight back into the ocean, while this little black-fin tuna was perfect for one sushi dinner and grilled on the next day. I had almost forgot how good it tastes with fresh home made sushi - haven't had it since we left the waters of Morocco.

P.S: Thank you all for your emails and comments regarding my last post. What would I do without you guys?? /T

Boat romance

I have lately realized how much I love photographing yachts. I mean is there anything more beautiful than sailboats graciously flying on a flat turquoise sea with dramatic hills and mountains making for an almost surreal backdrop, the sails are powerfully tensed with tons of pressure and the strength of the wind forces the boats to heel almost down to the surface of the water, nearly touching with the sails while they disappear in the horizon with a powerful speed, dangerously close to one another. You know how powerful and strong the boats are while at the very same time so delicately precise and vulnerable to even the lightest of wind. It is so beautiful they almost make me cry. There is something extremely romantic and powerful and sexy with sailing and these big boats I've encountered on the sea in the past few days have made my heart beat in a new way.

I'm positive that it is yacht and sailing photography that I should dedicate more of my freelance time on. But as it is quite a new area to me, I'm not sure where to start to get the photos published. Anyone know to what publications I should try to sell my pics to - where could they be in need of my photos? Please email me if you got some ideas. Any tips are welcome. Many thanks in advance. /Taru
